Myself and Matt attended the London Academy last week, where I hosted an evening for young sixth-formers who attend the school, in order to inspire and motivate them around the benefits of work experience. I spoke of my own experiences, setting up my own company from scratch and also brought along one of my team members Matt, who also did work experience in his early days at Halpern and now is a full-time member of the Fashion division.
The students response was overwhelming, and the sheer number of individuals who were incredibly keen to pursue a wide variety of activities was overwhelming. Everything from chemical engineering to law, from photography to PR itself, they truly represented the key leaders of tomorrow. As a governor on the board of the London Academy, I am keen to support these young, talented students and have pledged to help find the majority of them as many relevant placements using my contacts as best as I possibly can.
Chemical/software engineering, psychology, law, music, medicine, tv, media, you name it they want it. Now what we need is some placements. We already have Jimmy Choo, Karmarama, Women’s Aid, Cactus TV etc signed up but we need many more.
Can you help?
We will be meeting with the kids again in a few months time, so watch this space!

The sun made a much needed appearance at the Tiffany Across The Water event in London’s Royal Parks last week, beaming down as Joel Cadbury, Chairman of The Royal Parks Foundation, made a speech to guests including Ben and Marina Fogle, Stephen Bayley and Mark Wogan. Fernanda Kellogg, Chair of the board at The Tiffany & Co. Foundation and Sara Lom, Chief Executive of Royal Parks, also joined the celebrations.
Well wishers, garden enthusiasts and philanthropists alike turned out to celebrate the restoration of The Italian Garden’s. Thanks to the support from The Tiffany & Co. Foundation, the Italian Gardens are now restored to their former glory, recapturing their former glory of the 1860s when the Gardens were first created, as a gift from Prince Albert to his beloved Queen Victoria.
Fernanda Kellogg, Chair of the board at The Tiffany & Co. Foundation has previously said that The Tiffany Across the Water programme offers tangible benefits to millions of Park users. What a fantastic initiative indeed – now let’s hope for some better weather so we can all enjoy the beautiful surroundings!

The Poliform Stand at Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2012 was the talk of this year’s annual Milan furniture fair. From eye popping colour, stylish design, innovative mechanisms and top international architect collections, it was quite the crowd pleaser. The warm yet stylish stand really made Poliform a highlight of the show, and some of our fave pieces to look out for are the Santa Monica Lounge by Jean Marie Massaud and the Bolton bed with adjustable headboards by Giuseppe Vigano.

The Leghila team held a very successful store launch this week at the flagship on King’s Road, which was a great success. It was neoprene heaven and the store was rammed to capacity with lots of key press, friends of the UK brand owner and local businesses all attending to launch the new space which has opened at number 261, just opposite Carlyle Square near the Cadogan Arms pub.
Canapes were a local affair – made by the restaurant ‘Made in Italy’ with drinks all having an Italian theme – the Prosecco was flowing and it was great to see the UK’s loving for neoprene continuing to grow!

Renowned plastic surgeons Norman Waterhouse and Richard Young launched the Waterhouse Young Clinic, on Devonshire Street last week to a highly receptive audience. Their highly performing and proven non-surgical treatments have immediate results which, combined together with skin care and supplement advice, Waterhouse and Young offer a first-class, holistic approach for ultimate skin health.
Last week we invited a selection of key journalists and friends to come and take an exclusive look at the clinic and meet with Norman and Richard. Guests grilled the experts on their individual skin concerns, found out firsthand the offerings and what really lies beneath the skin. The skin analysis system which uses the latest technology, revealed your true skin health – note to self, SPF is to be worn every day, rain or shine! A few of the journalists were nervous about having it done but the Waterhouse Young team use it to offer a prescriptive programme and use it to track how your skin has improved from visit to visit, showing you that what they say, really does work.
Guests were charmed by the clinic’s individual manner. They take a ‘softly softly’ approach but the clinic itself is slick, beautiful and spa-like with candles and relaxation areas. Its small and intimate which makes it inviting and calming, not at all like other clinic waiting rooms I’ve been too.
For me, the tailor-made approach is what really makes the Waterhouse Young Clinic stand out. It’s no fluff, serious skin heath offering unsurpassed advise and top-quality treatments.

Healthy eating specialists The Food Doctor opened the doors to their Harley Street Clinic last week offering press the chance to come and meet the full team of experts available and find out how the integrated approach works. Michael da Costa and Paul Wynn of The Food Doctor were on hand to talk guests through the clinic and the unique approach with a platter of healthy food and snacks available throughout the day. Guests were shown around the clinic and introduced to each of the experts; from nutritional therapists, to the acupuncturist, the eating counsellor and the psychologist for personal one to one consultations. Many left inspired after their mini health MOT…. including us!

You can hardly say that London is lacking in fantastic venues to dine at any time of the day and for any kind of food, however not all of the new ones excite us quite as much as news of Little House Mayfair did. The ‘little sister’ shall we say, to Soho House, Little House is located a short walk from there and will open at 8.30 to serve breakfast and beyond until late in the evening. With bare brick interiors and vintage furniture the vibe of Little House will be cosy and welcoming much like it’s larger ‘siblings’. Another triumph for Nick Jones, we can’t wait to go try it out. Here’s the website: http://www.littlehousemayfair.com/

The Halpern team attended Vogue’s first ever festival this weekend and have exclusive insider knowledge for you below. The event brought fashion’s leading photographers, writers, designers and models under one roof purely for entertainment purposes, and was a two-day extravaganza that gave their readers the chance to watch debates and talks held by various thought-leaders in various categories as well as indulging in exclusive makeovers and workshops conducted by some of the industry’s most influential personalities.
Guests could have their very own cover shoot with Chanel, after being made over by hair brand Josh Wood and having make-up by Armani Eyes and Red My Lips. Vogue staff from every part of the title were on hand to help guests and it was a very exciting activity to be part of – especially as it was a UK exclusive event. Vogue pulled out all the stops to ensure presenters were A-List only, with the list including Tom Ford, Kate Hudson, Christopher Bailey, Lily Cole and Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to name a few.
Interestingly, the teams were giving out prospectuses for the new Conde Nast College of Fashion & Design which included an overview of the two courses they are launching next year:
- Vogue Fashion Certificate (10 weeks), starting January 2013
- Vogue Fashion Foundation Diploma (1 Year), starting October 2013
Vogue states that whilst these courses are ‘extremely creative’ that it is not their aim to teach students how to ‘be fashion designers’. It instead promises to give students a ‘far-reaching’ international view of the fashion industry – from the catwalks of London, Paris New York and Milan as well as touching upon emerging international markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and China.
It will be interesting to see if this will spread virally, as well as being featured in the print publication – Halpern will keep you updated!

A couple of the Halpern team went along to see ‘All New People’ last week, the Zach Braff play that has been taking the country by storm and was featured on the Halpern Hotlist. As big Zach Braff fans, the girls were very excited to see him in action in the flesh and he, along with the rest of the cast, didn’t disappoint. With a brilliant mix of laugh out loud moments interspersed with serious issues, the play was a hit with the audience. The set didn’t change throughout and the play only features 4 hugely varying characters which runs the risk of running dry in terms of audience attention but they loved it. It’s running at the Duke of York theatre until the end of April and there are still tickets available so head down if you can. Scrubs fans, you will not be disappointed!

Calling all ladies!! I have recently discovered the most amazing website. www.girlmeetsdress.com has a full range of designer outfits for all occasions that you can rent out instead of forking out the cash on a garment you may end up only wearing once. From Alexander Wang to Yves Saint Laurent they have all the designers you could want. I have my eye on several beautiful pieces for upcoming events this spring. Now I just have to hope this amazing weather holds out.
